Student Transition Team

The Student Transition Team (STT) is comprised of Orientation Leaders and LINK 101 Peer Leaders. They are all role models, advisors, and friends — but most of all, they are peer mentors who care about the growth and development of incoming students.

Peer Leaders 2024

Who is on the Student Transition Team (STT)?

Orientation Leaders and LINK 101 Peer Leaders are student leaders who help new students become acclimated to MMC and the larger New York City community. It’s the perfect opportunity for students to share their Marymount pride with our incoming students and their families.

Not only does the STT work with new students to provide them with a clear understanding of academic life and opportunities to become involved in the College community, but they also assist with the transition to Marymount Manhattan in all other aspects of a new student’s experience: academics, campus involvement, social engagement, navigating the city, etc.

Joining the Student Transition Team

The road to becoming an Orientation Leader or Peer Leader begins when applications become available at the start of the spring semester. After the application deadline passes mid-semester, all applicants will go through a group interview and selection process, designed to maximize the strengths of the Student Transition Team.

From there, the team is formed. Two weeks prior to the start of the following fall semester, STT members are invited back to campus to go through a four-day training led by College staff in order to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to serve as a resource to new students. Then, at the start of the fall semester, the STT members will help lead programs and events during Welcome Week, designed to introduce new students to campus and the surrounding city. Each student leader is assigned their own cohort of first-year students based on their and their students’ intended major(s) or their LINK 101 cohort.

After Welcome Week concludes, the LINK 101 Peer Leaders’ role isn’t finished. PLs also play a major role in our new student seminar, serving as a peer touchpoint throughout the fall and spring semesters to help keep their cohort of students on track and to encourage engagement in student life on campus.

The application for the 2025-2026 Student Transition Team will open in the spring.
