Writing Professor Tahneer Oksman to Guide Discussion on Jewish Identity and Graphic Memoir

On Friday, October 17, Associate Professor of Writing, Literature, and Language and Communication and Media Arts Tahneer Oksman, Ph.D., will moderate a conversation and Q&A with Swedish author and illustrator Joanna Rubin Dranger at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.

Joanna Rubin Dranger recently published a graphic memoir called Remember Us to Life, which follows her discovery of her family’s history. From the museum’s website:

In partnership with the Embassy of Sweden, join us for a special evening that explores Jewish identity, memory, and storytelling across borders—highlighting the vibrant and diverse experiences of Jewish life in Sweden.

The evening features Swedish author and illustrator Joanna Rubin Dranger, whose graphic memoir Remember Us to Life traces her family’s Jewish history across three continents. Guiding the evening’s dialogue is Tahneer Oksman—writer, teacher, and scholar—whose expertise will add a vital American perspective to this transatlantic exchange.

An RSVP is required to attend this event, but registration is free! Reserve your spot by clicking here.

Dr. Oksman teaches several classes at MMC, including Women’s Literary Traditions and Reporting on Tech & Social Media. This Fall, she will teach EWL-369- Graphic Storytelling: Exploring Contemporary Comics.
