Sociology Professor Erin O’Connor to Give Lecture on Glass Sustainability at Temple University

On February 21, Associate Professor of Sociology Erin O’Connor, Ph.D., will deliver a lecture on the material life of glass batch at the Tyler School of Art & Architecture at Temple University in Philadelphia.

From the event page:

Tyler’s renowned Glass Program will host a two-day Glass Sustainability Micro-Symposium that will bring together researchers and artists to examine the lifecycle of glass materials, from their geological origins to studio practices, and explore innovative, sustainable approaches to working with the medium. Through lectures, workshops, and discussions, this gathering invites participants to connect, share ideas, and reflect on the role of materials and practices in shaping a sustainable future.

Other events at the micro-symposium include presentations by Temple faculty and alumni, plus a conversation with Frederik Rombach, the founder of RERO Glass in Belgium.

Though Dr. O’Connor’s primary teaching focus is within the field of sociology, she is a globally recognized expert in craft studies and received the Rakow Grant to study glassblowing in 2023. As an associate professor at MMC, Dr. O’Connor has spent years teaching courses such as EcoCulture and Sustainability, Anthropology at Museums in NYC, Radical Labor and Artisan Movements, and Great Social Thinkers.

Congratulations, Dr. O’Connor!
