Our Lady of 121st Street - Director’s Note

Our Lady of 121st Street by Stephen Adly Guirgis is about the basic human desire to be loved and accepted. To love oneself and accept one’s own faults and shortcomings, to be loved and accepted by others. These talented students worked hard to create this world of love and pain. They are all imaginative, dedicated theatre artist. I was excited when asked to direct this play because I like Guirgis’ work so much, his characters are imperfect and real. And, it has been a pleasure and joy to direct and lead these amazing artists through the process of discovering and creating the world you are about to experience.

I want to dedicate my work on this production to my mother Jean Elizabeth Foster, an amazing artist who never had a chance to shine.
