Director’s Note:
This has been a tumultuous few months—full of unease and, honestly, a perilous urge to lean into apathetic numbness, just getting by. Lysistrata Jones rallies against that. She tires of the apathy around her and rallies those around her to “Go! Go! Fight! Fight!” with passion and power. At the end of a particularly crushing week, where rehearsing a show at times felt inappropriate given all we are experiencing around us, one student asked me for an honest answer to the question: “What can we do?” It took me longer than I’d hoped to find my answer, as I myself have struggled to continue with all that surrounds me. But here is mine:

We use our art to fight back. It’ll be hard—full of challenges and setbacks, as we’ve already witnessed, but it’s a necessary fight. Our community is our power—and Team Lysistrata Jones has proven that over and over and over again. So I urge you all to laugh, applaud, enjoy, then read, learn, question, and challenge. Explore, write, create. Vote. Vote. Vote. To no more “whatevers!” Go, Go! Fight, Fight! We’re gonna change the world!!
