Marymount Manhattan Center
Harnessing the power of creativity to drive change
Creativity and creative expression are not incidental to modern society. They are essential for improving our world.
The Marymount Manhattan Center is based in and revolves around the power of creativity to drive change. To accomplish this, the center empowers individuals to think and act creatively and to inspire others to join them in their change-making.
Center objectives
“The spirit imbued by the RSHM order is alive and well at MMC, and it’s what makes the College such a dynamic and vibrant place. That is why it makes perfect sense to me that the College has decided to join Northeastern’s global university system. MMC has never been an institution that stagnates. It grows, it evolves, and it changes with the times while staying true to its founding mission.”
- Helen Lowe ’55
Center programs
The Center will sponsor or co-sponsor a range of programs and activities, including:
Higher Education Opportunity Program
The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) provides academic support and supplementary financial assistance to eligible New York State residents who are interested in pursuing higher education but for whom it may not be an option because of financial and educational obstacles. HEOP has been an integral part of MMC since 1969, and this history will continue through the Center.
Prison Education
Access to higher education plays a vital role in rehabilitation and successful post-incarceration re-entry for individuals who have been involved with the justice system. The Center will play a lead role in supporting MMC’s impactful prison education programs at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility and the Taconic Correctional Facility.
Visiting Artists and Scholars-in-Residence
The Center will welcome visiting artists and scholars-in-residence whose work aligns with its mission. These residencies—from several weeks to a full academic year—will enable visiting artists and scholars-in-residence to pursue their work not only in collaboration with faculty and students across Northeastern’s global network but also across the NYC and global arts community.
Women Who Empower
Grounded in the belief that diverse and inclusive communities empower a better world, Women Who Empower inspires and enables future generations to be creative, innovative, and agile as they pursue powerful and transformative positions in the fields of their choice. Launched at Northeastern, Women Who Empower comprises a network of strong, aspiring, and distinguished individuals dedicated to fostering positive environments, building lasting connections, and providing meaningful experiences where all people thrive.
